Dear Conservative,
It has been 5 years since Barack Obama moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Over this time we’ve seen a number of scandals develop – Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS targeting conservatives, and Obamacare – and we’ve tried to keep you up to date with all of the new ways that President Obama is ruining this country. However as high profile as these other scandals may be, few are paying attention to the Obama administration’s reignited war on fossil fuels and energy production.
As we gathered with family and friends to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, there was one thing that no one is grateful for: high gas prices. How much did you have to shill out at the pump in order to make it to Thanksgiving dinner?
Today, the average price of unleaded regular gasoline is around $3.27/gallon. Now, I know what you’re thinking: Gas prices may be high now, but they have been higher over the last few years… and you’re right. Gas is 14 cents cheaper than it was last week and 25 cents cheaper than it was last year. It is easy to become complacent in the face of relative gains.
But do you remember how much a gallon of gasoline cost 5 years ago, on the first Thanksgiving of the Obama presidency? $1.61/gallon.
That’s right… gasoline is more than twice as expensive now than it was five years ago when Obama entered office. The President is largely responsible!
“Where is our all of the above solution?”
Many people blame inflation for rising gas prices and, in some ways, they’re right. The United States has seen an overall inflation rate of 8% since Obama took office. While that is certainly a high number, that still doesn’t account for such a staggering increase in gas prices. The rate of inflation does devalue the currency, but if only inflation was to blame, we should only have seen a $0.14 increase per gallon!
Gas prices have increased under this president for the same reasons that energy costs in general have increased: more taxes and regulations.
Obama’s EPA has worked tirelessly to increase regulations on much of America’s industry and the results have been staggering. In an effort to decrease emissions, the Obama administration has actually forced American industry to close its doors. We told you a few weeks ago how the EPA was forcing the last lead smelter in the United States to close its doors. Unfortunately, this trend is continuing.
Just this month, the Tennessee Valley Authority announced that it would close eight of its plants in Kentucky and Alabama and a nuclear power plant in New Jersey was slated to close its doors after being refused a permit by the EPA.
The EPA has perfected the art of regulating the energy industry out of existence. Obama’s goal is to make fossil fuels and energy production so expensive that only the companies that meet their strict standards will be able to stay in business. Barack Obama promised America in 2008 to “bankrupt the coal industry.”
Obama is widely quoted back in ’08 saying, “Under my cap and trade plan electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket.” He intimidates anyone who believes in inexpensive energy, he continued his mandate adding, “if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”
Coal power plants produce 37% of this nation’s energy. Forcing these plants into bankruptcy will result in dramatic energy price increases for the American people.
FAX CONGRESS – Make them recognize that the ends do not justify the means!
The Federal government is pumping billions of dollars into renewable energy technologies, only to watch the businesses go bankrupt.
Meanwhile as these renewable projects fail, the administration continues to deliberately increase the cost of fossil fuels and traditional energy production.
Since 2009, home heating oil is up 25%, gasoline prices are up 103% - yes! 103 PERCENT and electricity costs 18% more now than it did when Obama took office.
When are we going to stand up and demand, “Enough is enough?” When will the American people come to their senses and tell Congress to STOP these Executive Orders and mandates affecting every aspect of our lives and economy?
You buy gasoline, I buy gasoline. Everyone buys gasoline. We need it. Everyone is hurt by intentional “skyrocketing costs” due to liberal policies and not supply and demand.
Barack Obama’s policies are now firmly taking hold in the realm of the tangible.

You and middle-class Americans are being priced out of living the American dream because of President Obama’s War on Energy. Gas prices alone have us spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars more at the pump every year! These price increases are unsustainable!
We must force Congress to act. The only solution to higher gas prices is to increase domestic oil production, not regulate it to death!
How can anyone say with a straight face that more taxes and regulations could ever reduce the price of energy?
Only Congress can act. Luckily, they work for YOU! Only you can wake them up.
There are plenty of topics on the legislative agenda, and their attention span is spread thin. But if we can overwhelm them with a deluge of faxes against these new EPA regulations, we can wake them up and force them to act!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
