Senator Rand Paul has written to Attorney General Merrick Garland, calling for an investigation into whether Dr. Fauci committed perjury during his testimony in front of a Senate committee in 2021. 

Newly released emails show that Fauci was aware of gain-of-function experiments taking place in Wuhan, China, despite his testimony denying funding for such research. Gain-of-function research involves genetically altering a virus to make it more dangerous or infectious.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology and Wuhan University received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which contradicts Fauci's denial of funding for gain-of-function research.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released emails in which Dr. Fauci admitted concerns that COVID-19 might have been genetically engineered and that gain-of-function research was taking place in Wuhan.

Dr. Shi Zhengli, a leading virologist known as the "bat lady" from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, conducted research on bat coronaviruses to identify their potential to infect humans.
