Here at Conservative Daily, we always seek to shine a light on men and women in uniform who are being unfairly treated.
We sent close to a million faxes to Congress when the Obama administration threatened to involuntarily discharge Sgt. Charles Martland for shoving an Afghan rapist.
When a judge threatened to take away Navy Submariner Matthew Hindes’ child custody because he was unable to make it to a hearing (because he was stationed on a submarine), we bombarded Congress with FaxBlasts and got one Congressman in particular to intervene and help force the Judge to back down.
We owe our active duty military men and women more than we will ever be able to give them. But we’re going to try.
That is why we refuse to stop fighting for Army First Lieutenant Clint Lorance.
As was reported, Lt. Lorance was leading a platoon in Afghanistan when he instructed his troops to open fire on an approaching motorcycle carrying three men who were not obeying their instructions to stop.
Lorance made a split second decision. Instead of allowing the three men to barrel their motorcycle into the platoon, he ordered his men to neutralize the threat.
Two of the Afghans were killed. The third man fled on foot and disappeared.
Lt. Lorance was ultimately court-martialed and sentenced to 20 years in Leavenworth for the shooting because neither of the victims were carrying weapons.
The prosecutors hammered that point home, portraying Lorance as a trigger-happy leader. But what they failed to present to the court was the fact that the two victims’ fingerprints were recovered from disarmed and detonated roadside bombs in the area.
That’s right: this Army Lieutenant was sentenced to 20-years in prison because he instructed his men to open fire on Taliban bomb experts barreling towards his platoon.
It is just so backwards…
Lorance’s family and supporters petitioned former-President Obama to pardon Clint Lorance, but he refused. Now, they are turning their attention to President Trump.
Based on the reports we’re seeing, Trump is considering it.
The effort in Congress to free Lt. Lorance is being led by California Congressman Duncan Hunter (R). This is the same Congressman who took up the cause to help Marine Reservist Andrew Tahmooressi after he was imprisoned for accidentally driving into Mexico with firearms in his truck.
Rep. Hunter is now pressuring the White House to show Lt. Lorance mercy and issue a pardon. However, he can’t do it alone. He needs your help.
It was Congressional pressure that helped to get Sgt. Martland reinstated. It was Congressional intervention that forced a Judge to reverse her decision to strip a Navy Submariner of his child custody because he was at sea and couldn’t make a hearing.
If we’re going to get Lt. Clint Lorance released, it is going to take Congress as well. And the only way to force Congress to make this a priority is for you to demand it!
