Alert: Democrats are rejoicing after Republicans begin signing onto their gun confiscation plan!

Whenever there is a mass shooting, the Left always renews their push for gun control. Every time, they repeat the same tired talking points to assuage gun owners' fear: no one is coming for your guns.

This time, however, was different. Instead of blaming the FBI for dropping the ball in Parkland or the local Sheriff's office for refusing to go inside the school, the Left is calling for gun control. And this time, they are talking about confiscation.

Congressman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) -- shown above -- is introducing legislation to authorize Federal firearm confiscation orders. The legislation will mimic laws enacted in states like California that allow for the community to report gun owners to the police to have their guns confiscated. While the sponsors say it is to let families stop troubled family members from going on shooting sprees, the devil really is in the details. When these laws allow for angry neighbors or disgruntled ex-spouses to file these "red flag" reports, the system becomes rife with abuse.

My great-uncle went through this in New Jersey a couple of decades ago. When he decided to divorce his wife, she went to the police and spewed lie after lie to get the police to take away his firearms. Not because he was a danger to himself or others, but because she knew he loved his firearm collection and wanted to hurt him. Even though he eventually got his 2nd Amendment rights back, the judge in his divorce awarded the guns to his ex and she spitefully sold them off.

Federal law only allows for a couple ways for people to be disarmed. That is by design. The 2nd Amendment isn't a 2nd Class right. The government needs a compelling reason to disarm an American. The four major ways are being dishonorably discharged from the military, a fugitive from justice, convicted of a crime, or adjudicated mentally defective. This new bill would expand that to include petitions from family members, neighbors, community members, and perfect strangers.

Listen, I am all for designing ways to stop mass shooters. But we cannot afford to give the Federal government the power to disarm people based on nothing but hearsay!

That is a mistake that free people only get to make once...

Obama tried desperately to expand how the Federal government disarms Americans. In his final months, he pushed through a Social Security Administration regulation that would disarm any elderly American who checked a box asking for help managing their finances. Then, he redefined the term "adjudication" to include bureaucrats. Instead of these people getting a chance to plead their case before a judge, pencil pushers would make the determination.

We stopped that. This regulation was not on anyone's radar when it started. Your advocacy forced Congress to act and one of the first bills passed after Trump's inauguration was legislation to not only reverse Obama's order, but prohibit it from ever being enacted again.

Your voice is powerful. It is time to use it again.

Debbie Dingell is confident that she will be able to convince enough moderate Republicans to sign onto her bill. She has already gotten Fred Upton (R-MI) to agree to co-sponsor her confiscation bill. In the House, she would just need 22 other Republicans to sign on before she would have enough votes to pass.

After the Parkland shooting, we saw Republicans scramble to abandon their 2nd Amendment promises. And it's not just moderates either. Michigan Congressman Mike Bishop has an A/A+ rating from the NRA. This week, he quietly removed the 2nd Amendment portion of his website. He doesn't want anyone to know where he stands on gun rights. If he doesn't make any promises, then he can't be accused of breaking them...

Rep. Francis Rooney became the first Republican Congressman to declare a need for Americans to lose some of their gun rights. Then, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) penned an Op-Ed in the New York Times declaring he had changed his mind and now supports a semi-automatic gun ban. Mast ran for Congress as a Conservative. He received a hefty donation from the National Rifle Association for his campaign, which rated him as 86% when it came to the 2nd Amendment. He literally ran on a campaign promise to "protect our 2nd Amendment from all attempts to erode it."

The Left is picking off "conservatives" like flies. Six Republicans in the House -- Chris Smith (R-NJ), Peter King (R-NY), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Fred Upton (R-MI), Francis Rooney (R-FL), and Brian Mast (R-FL) -- have already come out in support of a new assault weapon ban. A dozen GOPers have also signed on to the Left's universal background check plan.

Now, the Democrats are looking to settle with Republicans on this new bill to give the Federal government the power to confiscate Americans' guns without due process whatsoever.

This has to be stopped!

If you think the GOP will block this bill on its own, you haven't been paying attention. They are caving on every issue, assuming that if they become Democrats, they'll be able to win re-election this fall.

They already pushed through a bill to expand the background check system and gave gun owners nothing in return.

If you allow them to legalize Federal gun confiscations, there will be no coming back.
