The Left's mantra is "don't let a good crisis go to waste." Charlottesville is proving to be no exception.
In between lying about the President and trying to dismantle historical monuments, some Democrats are launching a different strategy: go after the guns. You see, some of the people at the Charlottesville rally showed up openly carrying guns. According to leftists, that means that no one should be allowed to carry guns.
It is no secret that Congress has failed to live up to its promises to pass the agenda they promised and we voted for. I have spoken with some sources on Capitol Hill and word is that the GOP leadership wants to kick-off September by passing the "low hanging fruit."
One of those bills likely to pass is the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. This legislation would give law abiding Americans the right to carry firearms nationwide. It would also dismantle anti-gun state laws by allowing people who live in states like California and New Jersey to get non-resident concealed carry permits from Utah or Florida and use those permits to carry nationwide.
Democrats see this and they're terrified. Anti-gun states have been prohibiting concealed carry since the Jim Crow era. Many of these anti-carry laws are rooted in Democrat racisim. They look at the fact that the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is just 9 votes away from passing the House and they are petrified. They are watching the gun control empire they built come crashing down.
Now, they are using Charlottesville as a last-ditch effort to peel support from the bill. Here's the problem: many Republicans are just stupid enough to listen to them!
What is the left's new slogan? Disarm Hate. They are trying to link millions of law-abiding American gun owners to white nationalists and racists that were protesting in Charlottesville. They are now arguing that the best way to disarm racists is to make sure that all Conservatives are disarmed.
We are so close. Representative Richard Hudson has gathered 208 other co-sponsors. Since it takes 218 votes to pass a bill in the House, we have never been closer to that magic number. Never.
President Trump promised on the campaign to sign reciprocity into law if elected. The White House has confirmed that he will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. He is waiting patiently for the opportunity to sign it and restore the 2nd Amendment to the tens of millions of Americans who live in blue states behind the gun control iron curtain.
Now, the ball is in our court.
More than 100 Congressmen and more than 1/3 of all Senators have signed onto this legislation since we began pushing for this in January. This is what successful advocacy looks like. Together, we have bombarded Congress with messages they cannot ignore and the result has been measurable progress. But we haven't won yet...
The Democrats are mobilizing. They're using Charlottesville to pressure RINOs and Blue Dog Democrats to oppose these common-sense bills. The last play in their playbook is to cry racism. They know that the finish line is in sight for us and they're panicking.
Democrats have spent the past 100+ years using identity politics to justify unconstitutional gun control laws. With victory in sight, please, don't let them get away with this again!
