Breaking News: President Trump will visit the southern border on Thursday, likely to unveil in emergency declaration to begin border wall construction!
Yesterday, Trump dropped a bombshell. Not only has the Justice Department and White House Counsel's Office confirmed to him that he can build the border wall without Congress, but the President has actually announced that he is looking at declaring the national emergency.
"I may declare a national emergency, dependent on what's going to happen over the next few days."
Basically, if Democrats continue to hold the line and refuse to compromise at all on the border wall, Trump would use the executive powers granted to him in the law to use discretionary emergency funding to start the project.
How would that work?
Well, President Trump can declare an "immigration emergency" if he determines that there is a massive influx of illegal immigration that is (1) expected to continue growing, (2) is correlated to an increase in criminal activity, or (3) places unusual and overwhelming demands on law enforcement agencies.
The law would then allow the Army's civil works program to start building structures necessary for the national defense (aka, a border wall). Doing this would immediately open up 10.6 billion in discretionary funding.
Both Democrats and Republicans are flipping out. They would rather keep the border wide open than allow Trump to use his legal powers to get the wall built and today, the establishments of both parties are threatening to block the President!
Wednesday is Trump's deadline. If Democrats don't agree to fund the border wall by then, we are hearing that the President will start the process of declaring a national immigration emergency.
The White House just announced -- and this is breaking news --- that President Trump will visit the southern border on Thursday, likely to publicly reveal his emergency declaration.
Democrats aren't the only ones trying to block the President. Republican turncoats are starting to join them in opposition to the border wall.
Yesterday, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) declared that she would vote with Democrats to pass a bill to block border wall construction. Just think about that. She wants to end the government shutdown and block any funds from going to a border wall.
She's not alone. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) is also on board with the Democrats' plan and Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) is debating the move as well. That means they would be just one GOP vote away from pushing their border surrender bill through!
President Trump is doing everything he can. He is now just days away from declaring a national emergency and building the entire border wall. Of course, Congressional Republicans are coming out of the woodwork to stop him.
Don't let these GOP cowards get away with it!
We have waited two years to secure the border. Every time a funding battle came to the floor, Establishment Republicans like Ryan and McConnell said the timing wasn't right. They both promised a border wall vote after the midterms. The House ended up pushing through a bill with just days left in the session and McConnell never even bothered to bring it to the floor.
The GOP refused to let a border wall bill reach Trump's desk. Their obstruction was deliberate. One of the last things Paul Ryan told the White House was that they'd have better luck negotiating with Democrats over the border wall...
Now, President Trump has a plan. It is lawful, constitutional, and warranted. We have seen the violent mobs storming the border to try to invade the country. Border Patrol is running out of detention facilities to hold the illegal border crossers. We also know that the CDC is on the scene to stop the spread of dangerous contagious diseases into the country.
It is an emergency.
But Democrats and Republicans are so eager to stop President Trump, they are willing to keep the border wide open to do it!
