Hitler’s Mein Kampf devotes two chapters to the use of propaganda: "Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. [It] must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. The art of propaganda consists…in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses.”

In Hitler’s time, that philosophy meant he would use radio, art, films, books, magazines and posters to spread his message. Imagine how successful he would have been had he had television, mobile phones, or the Internet at his disposal.

Which brings us to how lucky Barack Obama is, having so much great technology available as he spends millions of dollars of taxpayer money trying to sell us on the benefits of Obamacare, which the American people have overwhelmingly rejected.

Like ranchers leading sheep to the slaughter, Barack Obama and his cohorts in the Department of Health and Human Services are trying to get us to take our poison.

The PR firm Porter Novelli was awarded a $20 million, taxpayer-funded contract to promote the Department of Agriculture’s food pyramid and tout the benefits of Obamacare. Ogilvy Public Relations was given $26 million in stimulus funds to promote the bill, and $19 million was spent in 2010 on brochures that the General Accounting Office admitted made “overstatements” about the benefits. In total, well over $50 million of your money has been spent promoting Obama’s healthcare law.

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) sent a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius earlier this year expressing his concerns about the money being spent on the “campaign” for Obamacare. "If…you're doing a PR blitz to try to sell a program during an election year, that seems to me to be more in the realm of something a political organization should be paying for rather than us as taxpayers."

He asked for a response by June 1st. He didn’t get one. A follow-up letter was sent, asking for information by August 1st. again, nothing. Now, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Charles Boustany (R-LA) are threatening to issue subpoenas if the HHS continues to stall.

“The department’s failure to provide a single responsive document to the Committee’s reasonable requests leaves only two possibilities: either the department is unable to keep track of the work products it buys with taxpayer dollars or the department is trying to delay any response until after this year’s election. Neither explanation is acceptable,” they wrote.

Government spending is at an all-time high and there is waste at every level. But now, your money is being spent on a PR campaign to get you to “buy in”—excuse the pun—to Obamacare. Of course, Obama needs to salvage public opinion of Obamacare and he can’t let any negatives get in the way of his push for four more years.

But, really, if we know that Obama was willing to let four Americans die in Benghazi and lie to the American people about it because he wanted to save his campaign, it’s not such a stretch to believe that he would spend millions of dollars of our money to promote his terrible healthcare bill.

Nancy Pelosi can wield the largest gavel imaginable, but she will never be able to make Obama’s healthcare takeover palatable to the American people. A Real Clear Politics average shows that a majority of Americans favor repeal of the entire bill. And that is why Obama is stepping up the promotion, considering using popular TV shows to spread the word. Former healthcare official Peter Lee said, “I’d like to see 10 of the major TV shows, or telenovelas, have people talking about ‘that health insurance thing. There are some good story lines here.”

Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy were mentioned as possible places for one of those good “story lines.” They have also talked about producing a pro-Obamacare reality show. Will Broadway be next?

And, while Obama is fond of doing things that aren’t quite legal or constitutional, in this case, he may soon have the legal right to invade the media with his agenda. The House passed amendment 114 to the Defense Authorization Act in May. It amends the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 and the Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1987, giving the government authorization to use propaganda on the American people.

A Pentagon official says, “The new law would give sweeping powers to the State Department and Pentagon to push television, radio, newspaper, and social media onto the U.S. public. “It removes the protection for Americans. There are no checks and balances. No one knows if the information is accurate, partially accurate, or entirely false.”

This amendment must be stopped in the Senate.

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) says that American taxpayers are covering the bill for 60 percent of all pro-Obamacare ads. The administration is also spending money to drive traffic to pro-Obamacare websites, and The New American reported last year that a $5 billion fund was being used to send money to news organizations and media firms, giving information about Obamacare. Of course, when NBC, Reuters, or the Washington Post “reported” on Obamacare, they didn’t mention having been paid. The HHS should be compelled to answer questions about the money they have spent on promoting Obamacare. As usual, the administration is refusing to cooperate. This is simply not acceptable.

We wonder if Obamacare is such a popular program, as has been suggested by the administration, why is the government on such a big PR push to get us to accept it?

Most of us are only going to participate in Obamacare because we are being forced to by the government. And now to add insult to injury, they are taking our money and trying to sell us on it.
