Congress doesn’t get a lot of things right… There’s a reason that the country’s legislative arm is hovering around just a 14% approval rating.
But every now and then, Congress gets something right.
They say that a “broken clock is right twice a day,” but I think it might be a little presumptuous to assume Congress is capable of getting two things right, let alone in one day…
But there is something that Congress did get right. It is officially illegal to transfer detained terrorists onto U.S. soil. A bipartisan majority in both Chambers of Congress passed this law in the waning days of Nancy Pelosi’s speakership.
This law has been the only thing stopping the President from transferring the most hardened terrorists into U.S. prisons… until now.
We’ve just gotten word that Obama’s inner circle is drafting an Executive Order to disregard the law and move terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the United States anyway!
I understand the legal and constitutional argument against the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility. Quite honestly, I can even empathize with it.
But that does not give the Obama administration carte blanche to transfer hardened terrorists into domestic civilian prisons!
When Congress passed the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2009 (H.R. 2346), it became illegal for the Executive Branch to finance Guantanamo Bay terrorist prisoner transfers. There isn’t a lot that both political parties agree on, but in the Senate, this bill passed by a 90-6 margin!
Subsequent appropriations bills would add on to this, maintaining the ban on mainland prison transfers but allowing the administration to transfer prisoners abroad as long as Congress received ample notice.
However, the administration broke this law when it traded five hardened terrorists earlier this year in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl, a suspected Army deserter.
And what did Congress do about this lawlessness? Absolutely NOTHING!
With this White House, if you give an inch they will take a mile. They’ve seen that Congress was too afraid to punish them for the Bowe Bergdahl swap, so now they are going to go even further…
This is happening. The documents are already being drafted. And unless this lawless Imperial President is stopped, these hardened terrorists could be moved to prisons in YOUR state!
The White House’s end goal is to have these terrorists on U.S. soil where they will receive a taxpayer funded lawyer and receive a podium to spew hate in our court systems.
These terrorists weren’t arrested after lengthy investigations. Many were pulled off the battlefield after they were caught shooting at U.S. soldiers. There’s isn’t a chain of evidence to be used in court…
Many on the Left want to give these terrorists a trial in the American court system, and if this happens it is likely that many of them will simply get let off. So what then… We’ll just have a bunch of terrorists living among us?
Regardless of whether you support the idea of Guantanamo Bay or not, the government has no business bringing these terrorists into the United States!
Congress enacted this ban for a reason. Both parties voted overwhelmingly to prevent terrorist detainees from being transferred onto U.S. soil. Yet, with the stroke of a pen, Barack Obama will sign an executive order that rewrites the law to enact his own liberal agenda.
It’s bad enough that the White House is relocating illegal aliens across the country. Do you really want hardened terrorists being jailed in your home state?
