For 48 straight weeks, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has blocked the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act from coming to a vote.
He had the opportunity last night to attach it to a funding bill, but instead left it collecting dust on his desk. The House and Senate just passed a 2-year budget bill, which means that there will not be another budget fight until after the midterms.
Democrats used the bill as a chance to push for more spending for their priorities. However, when the GOP priorities were tallied up, gun rights was once again missing from the list.
Meanwhile, Americans continue to be arrested and victimized for simply exercising their right to bear arms. A few weeks ago I told you about Holly Leach, a Colorado woman who was arrested in New York State when she tried to declare a pistol as checked luggage at the airport.
New York law is so backwards that even possessing a pistol in a locked case inside of a suitcase qualifies as carrying a gun, which is illegal without a New York pistol permit and concealed carry license.
Her court date has been set for this month. They're throwing the book at her. She wasn't illegally carrying a gun in public, she was simply trying to bring her gun home with her.
She is facing felony counts that will ruin her life if she's convicted.
None of this would have happened if Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan got off their behinds and put the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act onto President Trump's desk!
Instead, they are going to prioritize amnesty. At a press conference yesterday, Paul Ryan promised Democrats and liberal Republicans that the House of Representatives' next priority is to pass an amnesty bill.
Here is how Paul Ryan is governing. Yes, the House is passing Conservative bills. They passed the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, Kate's Law, and even the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. But this is nothing but lip service. Ryan is perfectly happy letting these bills die in the Senate.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the biggest pro-gun bill ever. It would restore the 2nd Amendment's promise of a "right to bear arms" and extend it nationwide for ALL qualifying Americans.
Unless you are a police officer, it is currently impossible to legally carry a firearm in all 50 states. Even if you have a concealed carry permit in your home state, not all states honor it. States like Illinois, New Jersey, and New York refuse to honor ANY out-of-state permit.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would fix this by granting all carry permits reciprocity in all 50 states. If you have a license to carry, then you can carry anywhere in the country. You would still need to obey local self-defense laws, but states would no longer be allowed to arbitrarily deny people their right to bear arms.
But this is the more important part. Currently, 26% of all Americans live in states that will deny carry permit applications at any time, for any reason. In these states, there is no such thing as a "right" to bear arms. This legislation would tear down these anti-gun laws and allow law-abiding residents to carry in their home state. That is because the bill grants reciprocity to non-resident permits as well. So, if New Jersey refuses to grant a law abiding resident's application, he or she can apply for a permit from Utah and then use it to carry in all 50 states... including their home state!
The bill has the power to tear down centuries-old unconstitutional gun control laws. Yet, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the GOP leadership refuses to make it a priority. No more...
President Trump has promised to sign the bill into law when it reaches his desk.
Do you understand how big of an opportunity this is? We have a chance to restore the right to bear arms nationwide. This legislation would tear down the gun control iron curtain and restore the right to bear arms to the 26% of Americans living in blue coastal states.
Paul Ryan tried desperately to block the bill and reluctantly allowed it to pass, knowing that Mitch McConnell would never touch it.
It is now up to us to force a vote. It is up to YOU to demand that Congress move this bill forward.
The 14th Amendment says that anytime states are caught violating Americans' liberties, it is Congress' responsibility to get involved and force the states to obey the Constitution. That includes the 2nd Amendment.
Congress must act and only you can force them to!
