Breaking: Establishment Republicans are trying to re-open the Federal government without voting on border security funding!
President Trump is holding strong on the border wall. He understands that this is a fight we cannot afford to lose. If we give up on border security now, we will never get another chance to protect the American people from the scourge of illegal immigration and open borders.
A poll just released by ABC News and the Washington Post shows that support for President Trump's border wall plan is higher than ever, and still going up.
Already, we are seeing Democrats start to abandon Pelosi's hardline stance. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), hardly a moderate, pushed back against his Party's stance that building a border wall would be "immoral." As if an inanimate object could have moral agency...
Mark Morgan, the man that Barack Obama tapped to lead US Customs and Border Patrol during his administration, has also come out in support of President Trump's border security plan.
We are winning this policy argument. So, it is only fitting for Establishment Republicans to start caving.
Just days after urging President Trump to declare a national emergency, Lindsey Graham changed his tune. He called on President Trump to accept a clean funding bill without border funding, re-open the government (for at least three weeks), give up all leverage, and then hope for Democrats to negotiate in good faith.
Why would Graham want this? Because he wants more time to pitch his compromise plan: partial border wall funding in exchange for full amnesty for Barack Obama's illegal alien "dreamers"...
We know that Republicans Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Cory Gardner are ready to cave and end the shutdown. They've admitted it. With Lindsey Graham's support, they now officially have the votes!
The GOP leadership in Congress informed President Trump over the weekend that they would fight back against him if he tried to build the wall on his own through emergency powers.
It was Congress that passed 10 USC Section 2808, allowing the President to declare a national emergency.
"In the event of a declaration of war or the declaration by the President of a national emergency... the Secretary of Defense, without regard to any other provision of law, may undertake military construction projects, and may authorize the Secretaries of the military departments to undertake military construction projects, not otherwise authorized by law that are necessary to support such use of the armed forces."
The Code of Federal Regulations also defines what an "immigration emergency" is under the Immigration and Nationality Act:
"An actual or imminent influx of aliens which either is of such magnitude or exhibits such other characteristics that effective administration of the immigration laws of the United States is beyond the existing capabilities of [DHS]... Characteristics of an influx of aliens, other than magnitude, which may be considered in determining whether an immigration emergency exists include: the likelihood of continued growth in the magnitude of the influx; an apparent connection between the influx and increases in criminal activity; the actual or imminent imposition of unusual or overwhelming demands on law enforcement agencies; and other similar characteristics."
Why am I citing these laws and regulations? To show you that the situation at the border qualifies as a National Emergency and that President Trump is on solid legal and constitutional ground to declare it one. This is a power that Congress explicitly gave the President and all emergency funds have already been appropriated.
The GOP is refusing to let the President go this route because they want to trade amnesty for border security funding! Instead of prioritizing the safety and security of the American people, the Congressional leadership wants to give amnesty and taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens in this country. Graham is also floating a "compromise" that would bring more foreign workers into the US to replace American workers.
If the GOP forces the President to re-open the government, there will never be a wall. If the GOP trades full and immediate amnesty for partial and delayed border security funding, there will never be a wall.
The President needs you to keep pressuring Congress before the Republicans cave completely!
A new migrant caravan hits the road tomorrow. Border Patrol reported a 300% uptick in assaults against Federal agents after the last caravan reached the border. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are on the border trying to stop caravan migrants from bringing deadly and contagious diseases into the country.
But the GOP leadership isn't interested in securing the border. They are only interested in passing an amnesty bill first. Remember, this was the same amnesty program that the Republicans were, just two years ago, trying to abolish.
This shutdown is the chance to finally secure the border and protect future generations from the scourge of illegal immigration and open borders. The Republicans, however, want amnesty more. Lindsey Graham's flip-flop now gives the open border advocates enough votes to re-open the government without passing border funding.
You must fight back before it's too late!
