Democrats are forcing a vote on their gun control bill this Wednesday! They claim that Republicans are on board.
When last November's election results started coming in, we knew that the Left would make a gun control push. The only question was how far would they go.
We now have an answer: all the way.
The base of the Democrats gun control bill is H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. The bill now has 231 co-sponsors, including five Republicans: Reps. Peter King (NY), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Brian Mast (FL), Fred Upton (MI), and Christopher Smith (NJ).
This bill would, at its core, require background checks for all private firearm sales and transfers. But the bill does so much more than that.
When you hear Democrats say they want "universal background checks," what they're actually demanding is a nationwide gun registry. Without a registry, there is no way to enforce the background check requirement. The government needs to know who has which guns so they can determine whether private transfers are done legally.
Any student of history knows that every single time a government has ever mandated gun registrations, confiscations soon followed.
But Democrats aren't content with just stopping there On Wednesday, they are holding a "markup session" for H.R. 8. This is when all of the worst gun control amendments will get voted on. Radical anti-gun leftists are also demanding that Pelosi add in a new ban on semi-automatic weapons and "large capacity" magazines. On the Republican side, turncoats like Brian Mast and Brian Fitzpatrick are urging Democrats to focus instead on their "red flag" firearm confiscation bills.
Both parties are calling for the biggest gun control bill ever. It is up to you to stop them!
Two years ago, my family suffered a house fire. Once we were able to get back into our home, I brought my firearm collection to a friend's house for safe-keeping.
Under the Left's new bill, this would be come a felony.
Criminals will continue to steal guns and buy stolen guns out of the trunks of cars. Democrats admit that their bill will do nothing to stop the criminal elements from arming themselves.
No, the sole target of this new legislation is YOU and millions of law-abiding gun owners. With a complete gun owner registry, the Federal government would finally be able to monitor who owns the guns in this country. The ONLY reason for a nationwide registry is to make it easier for the government when they decide to force gun owners to turn them all in.
It happened in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and every other country that has imposed gun bans on its citizens. That is the Left's dream: total confiscation.
Which is why they are coupling this bill with Dianne Feinstein's new "Assault Weapon" ban. But this gun ban bill goes further than any of its predecessors. Like most pieces of legislation, the devil really is in the details. As we expected, Dianne Feinstein's bill would ban semi-automatic long guns that have "pistol grips." But if you actually read the bill's text, but it defines a pistol grip as "a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip."
Yes, you are reading that right. Any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun capable of being held in your hand would be banned.
But that isn't even the worst part of this new package. Republicans take that prize. The GOP is demanding that any gun control bill include a version of their "red flag" proposals. As you know, the 2nd Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. In order for the government to suspend that right, prosecutors need to prove -- in a court of law -- that someone is either mentally defective or a criminal. And when I say 'prove,' that means they need to present real evidence supporting their disarmament request.
The GOP's red flag proposal skips that step entirely and gives judges and police departments the authority to confiscate someone's guns based on nothing but hearsay. If a family member, friend, neighbor, or even stranger turns a gun owner into police, officers can confiscate their guns without due process. It would be the gun owner's job to then prove that he or she deserves to have their guns back.
Under this bill being pushed by these turncoat Republicans, gun owners would become guilty until proven innocent!
Across the country, states have passed these red flag laws. They promised that they would use these disarmament powers responsibly.
In Maryland, police confiscated guns from 148 people in the law's first three months. One of those men was Gary Willis. When police officers arrived at his home at 5am to confiscate his guns, Willis refused to just give up his right to keep and bear arms. During a scuffle with officers, he was shot dead in his own doorway.
Gary Willis was never accused of a crime or adjudicated mentally defective. An angry family member had turned him into police under Maryland's red flag law. Their reasoning? It was payback after they got into an argument days prior.
This is what is at stake here... These aren't just theoreticals, anymore. The first innocent gun owner was killed last year for resisting the Left's confiscation demands and Democrats applauded.
Democrats pushing this insane gun control bill this week, but the only way they can is because they have GOP support, both in the House and the Senate. Last year, Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) shocked Conservatives when he declared that "some freedoms are going to have to be given up" in pursuit of the Left's gun control dreams.
If this passes, you can kiss the 2nd Amendment goodbye. This bill doesn't just ban entire classes of guns, but it creates a gun owner registry and makes it easier for the government to confiscate Americans' guns.
