Congress must pass a spending bill by next week. Instead of working on each appropriations bill individually, they are going to be passing what is known as an "omnibus bill."
Basically, this is one gigantic piece of legislation designed to set spending levels for the entire federal government.
The budget fight set spending maximums. This legislation is actually more important because it decides what the spending will actually be.
The Founding Fathers saw that this was incredibly important process. They called it the "power of the purse."
When the Executive or Judicial Branch go too far, Congress can fight back by cutting off funding to specific programs.
Sanctuary cities are one of those issues.
Last week, we saw something amazing happen. The mayor of Oakland, California actually warned illegal aliens that the Trump administration was going to be rounding up criminal illegal aliens. She got in front of cameras and told illegal aliens to hide from ICE agents.
San Francisco Mayor Mark Ferrell has even promised to go to prison to save the city's sanctuary status, even if it means obstructing ICE officers.
These cities think they're untouchable. A handful of liberal activist judges have blocked Trump from cutting their funding, so they are going even farther to save illegal alien criminals from deportation.
This is our chance. This is our chance to override the 9th Circuit's liberal judges and force Congress to cut off sanctuary city funding!
There is a reason that Federal agents need local cooperation when targeting illegal alien criminals. It is far safer for law enforcement and the community to arrest these criminals in court rooms or jail cells. Every time that ICE is forced to go door to door to round them up, lives are put in danger.
But this is an all new low. Liberal mayors are actually warning illegal alien criminals that ICE is coming. So not only are agents forced to go door to door, but these hardened criminals are already waiting for them. It is only a matter of time before one of them decides to go down in a hail of gunfire.
And it will all be because of these sanctuary cities deciding to put illegal aliens over Americans...
We have a chance, right now, to put an end to this forever. The amendment is already written. Rep. Lou Barletta introduced the bill. It might look long, but it is actually just FOUR sentences long and would give the Trump administration the power to cut off sanctuary city funding.
"Any State or local government that violates section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1373) may not receive any Federal financial assistance (as such term is defined in section 7501(a)(5) of title 31, United States Code). The Attorney General shall determine annually which State or local jurisdictions are not in compliance with section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act and shall report such determinations to Congress on March 1 of each year. The Attorney General shall also issue a report concerning the compliance of any particular State or local jurisdiction at the request of any Member of Congress. Any jurisdiction that is found to be out of compliance shall be ineligible to receive Federal financial assistance for a minimum period of one year, and shall only become eligible again after the Attorney General certifies that the jurisdiction is in compliance."
The massive spending bill drops next week. If Congress slips these four sentences into the thousand page bill, we win the fight.
The Founders knew a day would come when Congress would have to exercise its authority like this. They gave the legislature the power of the purse for this reason.
Liberal activist judges in California are protecting sanctuary cities from losing their federal funding and now sanctuary city leaders are so emboldened, they're actively warning illegals when raids are coming.
It is up to you to force Congress to pass this common-sense amendment!
We already know what the GOP leadership thinks about sanctuary cities. They've had over a year to put legislation onto Trump's desk and they've failed. They are not going to do this on their own. They need to be forced into action... threatened and shamed into action!
While the Founders gave Congress the power of the purse, it actually belongs to you.
The President is elected every four years by the electoral college. The Judiciary is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Congress, however is directly elected. Congress is the only body in our government that is directly chosen by and responsible to the people.
Members of Congress must listen to you or else they would be removed from office. So when the Founders designed the "power of the purse" as a check on executive and judicial overreach, they gave that power to you.
Now is literally the time for you to use it!
