It's no secret that President Trump is eager to sign a prison reform bill into law. Earlier this year, the House of Representatives easily passed their bipartisan version of the bill with a vote of 360-59.
That was back in May. For months, we've been waiting for the Senate to pass their version of the bill -- S.1917. But that vote never came. The reason is that the Democrats want to deny President Trump a victory, even means blocking an issue that they have been demanding for decades.
Just this past week, however, Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) -- shown above -- met with Mitch McConnell and said the Democrats are ready to deal... but it is going to cost American gun owners. Chuck Schumer demanded that the GOP agree to pass a major gun control provision.
If passed, their amendment would amend the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to criminalize gunsmithing by outlawing the sharing of firearm design schematics online. These are the regulations designed to restrict arms exports overseas. They were designed to stop weapons manufacturers from selling missiles to terrorists. Democrats are now trying to weaponize it to target innocent Americans.
You can walk into the Library of Congress right now and get all of the information needed to learn how to build a gun. That information is protected by the 1st Amendment, similar to how college physics students are allowed to learn the theory behind building a nuclear weapon.
Our judicial system is supposed to hold people innocent until proven guilty, and simply knowing how to build a weapon is not the same as illegally using a weapon to commit a crime. Right now, I could walk you into the plumbing aisle of Home Depot and show you how to build a working 12 gauge shotgun. It isn't a crime to have this knowledge.
If the GOP bows to Schumer's demand, it would be a crime to share it!
Teaching someone how to build a gun would be the same as illegally transferring a firearm, punishable by a minimum of 5 years in prison. The bill would reduce the sentences for people who use illegal guns to commit crimes and increase the penalties for simply learning how to build a gun.
Obama tried to do something like this back in 2016. The Obama signed an executive order two years ago that would have reclassified all sixteen thousand gunsmiths in this country as "firearm manufacturers" under the country's firearm export regulations.
The Obama administration's logic was simple, but incredibly stupid: Because a gunsmith can technically service international warlords, the Obama administration wanted to regulate these mom & pop gunsmiths as if they are doing business abroad.
Most gunsmiths in this country work out of their garages or basements. They serve their neighborhoods. They make sure that the rifle someone inherits is safe to shoot and perform the necessary adjustments to get their buddy’s rifle ready for hunting season.
This Obama regulation would have put most of America's gunsmiths out of business. We led the charge against this assault on the 2nd Amendment and were able to defeat Obama's executive order before it was implemented.
Now, Schumer and the Democrats are back to finish the job and threatening to kill President Trump's prison reform bill if the GOP doesn't agree to also go after American gunsmiths and gun owners alike!
Did you know that an AR-15 lower receiver's takedown pins are spaced exactly 6.375 apart? If the Democrats are able to push their amendment through, simply sharing that information with you like this would become a felony.
The Left's ultimate gun control dream is to confiscate every gun in this country. After the Assault Weapon Ban passed in 1994, Sen. Dianne Feinstein admitted during a television interview that if she had the votes, she would have gone farther and told "Mr. and Mrs. America to turn them all in."
They know, however, that their dream is impossible if Americans know how to build their own guns.
Since the day the Constitution was ratified, it has been legal under federal law for Americans to build their own guns for personal use. It's as American as apple pie. As technology advances, it is becoming easier and easier to do this.
The Left is now demanding the GOP pass this gun control amendment and the Congressional leadership is giving in!
Don't let this happen!
Benjamin Franklin famously wrote that "those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
He was absolutely right.
Democrats are demanding new limitations be placed on both the 1st and 2nd Amendment in order to 'keep the country safe.' They are demanding that you give up your right to learn how to build a firearm.
Whether or not you ever will build a gun is irrelevant. The Left doesn't even think you should have that right, and that should be enough to show what their true intentions are...
The Democrats aren't even trying to hide it anymore. They are openly trying to chip away your constitutional rights.
There is still time to defeat this, but you need to act now.
It is up to you to FORCE Congress to kill this amendment before it passes!
