Gun control is coming to the United States, via a United Nations Small Arms Treaty that will threaten our rights and set up a system for gun registration and confiscation!

The United Nations Small Arms Treaty would be laughable, were it not such a threat to our Second Amendment rights. Its motive is supposedly to “eradicate the illicit trade in conventional arms and to prevent their diversion to the illicit market,” but some of the largest arms traffickers in the world—who are also members of the U.N.—either voted against the ATT or abstained.

And what did the United States do? Well, Barack Obama put us at the table and instructed the U.S. delegation to vote for it. This summer he will sign it, and it will the move to the Senate for ratification. Many Senators have already stated they are against the treaty, but only 67 votes are needed for ratification. With the way Congress has been acting on major legislation votes recently,we cannot automatically assume these men and women will protect our Constitutional rights.

Laws are only for those who abide by them, and this treaty is going to be weak in the face of the illicit arms trade. Criminals and criminal states are not going to pay attention to its provisions.

This is an urgent issue for America. Fax Congress and tell them to reject the U.N. Treaty and resist any other U.N. actions that violate our Constitution and our sovereignty.

Even if our Senate rejects the treaty, the United Nations has already declared it part of international law since other countries have signed it. In essence, our involvement with the U.N. could basically eliminate our rights and the powers of Congress. We won’t be constitutionally bound to it, but we will be under intense pressure to abide by it—and the current administration under Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, cozy with the U.N., would likely lead the charge. And should the issue ever make it to the Supreme Court, we still cannot count on Second Amendment protection, because the court has cited international law in past decisions.

Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt talked to WND.com and explained in clear terms the problem with a United Nations gun directive, outside of obvious Second Amendment rights concerns: “First of all, it’s probably helpful to understand who’s the good guys and who’s the bad guys at the U.N. Most of those governments are at best crooked and often dictatorial, tyrannical and just horrible to have anything to do with.

“When they talk about keeping guns out of the wrong hands, they’re talking about keeping guns out of the hands of the people that might seek their freedom from these horrible governments. So for us to sign a treaty like that is for the United States to, in effect…approve of these governments…and give them morally a stronger hand in oppressing their people. That’s exactly why the peoples of the world need their guns, so that they can protect themselves from their own government. That’s why we have a Second Amendment.”

What liberals could not get done in Congress they now can achieve via this U.N. international “law.” The ATT requires nations to establish and maintain a “national control system” and  “national control list” of small arms and light weapons. It says it is “mindful”—whatever that means—of “legitimate trade and lawful ownership” of arms for recreational and sporting use, but it makes no mention of individual ownership and the language is so vague it is reasonable to expect gun control advocates to translate the ATT into a complete ban.

Pratt goes on to explain that, “Our government, if it were to implement the terms of the treaty, would have to set up a national gun registration and licensing scheme so that it could make its due diligence in knowing where every gun is sold and bought. Our own government hasn’t had a problem putting guns in the hands of the Mexican cartel, leading to the death, the murder, of at least 400 Mexicans. It seems to me that if there’s any gun control that’s needed, it’s control of our own government by we the people.”

YOUR guns, YOUR safety, YOUR rights are under attack by the “international” community via the United Nations.

Fax every single Member of Congress and tell them to refuse this treaty and any other like it that will infringe upon the rights of Americans!
