The United States of America is not secure. Leaks are pouring out of the White House with alarming consistency. Our military and intelligence officers involved in dangerous operations in foreign lands are vulnerable, because the Obama administration cannot keep its mouth shut about what they are up to.

When Osama bin Laden was killed, Obama bolted to the microphones to announce it. No one disputes that it was a great achievement, or that it was very newsworthy. But many people are concerned that it was handled poorly and may have cost us dearly because it was revealed so quickly.

When the bin Laden compound was destroyed that night, the SEAL team that went in was able to recover computers and disk drives and other intelligence that could have shed light on Al Qaeda’s entire network. It potentially could have blown the lid off their cover and enabled us to weaken their operation considerably.

However our President, looking to capitalize on an operation he takes credit for, breathlessly ran to the press and announced bin Laden’s death. At that point, any Al Qaeda operation with sense would have burrowed further underground and abandoned links and contacts that could potentially have been exposed in the raid, thus making the job of our intelligence community and our military much, much harder.

Conservative-Daily.com recently told you that Congress is becoming concerned that Obama is so desperate to win re-election, and so keen to make his “apology tour” a distant memory, he is willing to leak national security secrets in order to make himself look like a strong foreign policy leader.

It will be a tragedy for our country and the men and women who defend us if Obama gets four more years in office. Imagine losing years and years of hard work and intelligence gathering, and the long-term consequences to the safety of this country, all because one man has decided his re-election efforts trump everything else.

Senator John McCain says, “It is difficult to escape the conclusion that these recent leaks of highly classified information, all of which have the effect of making the president look strong and decisive on national security in the middle of his reelection campaign, have a deeper political motivation. The only conceivable motive for such damaging and compromising leaks of classified information is that it makes the president look good.”

The Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, a group of current and former military and intelligence officials, is also concerned. They have just released a video titled,  “Dishonorable Disclosures: How Leaks And Politics Threaten National Security,” demanding that public officials stop leaking national security information.

They believe Obama and his administration are putting ego and his re-election campaign above our national security. For example:

• Obama immediately disclosed the death of bin Laden, instead of waiting to exploit the information taken by SEAL Team Six.



• Obama gave detailed, sensitive information to Hollywood filmmakers wanting to make a movie about his death.



• Obama made public the unit that killed bin Laden, the cover name, the aircraft that were used, the number of raiders, and how the team entered and moved around the grounds.



• Obama disclosed the identity of the Pakistani doctor who helped with identifying bin Laden’s location, a disclosure that landed the doctor a 33-year sentence in prison for treason.



• Obama disclosed our involvement in Stuxnet, a computer virus program meant to disarm and disrupt Iran’s nuclear program.

Former Democrat Senator Bob Kerrey said, “By describing certain methods — the name of the unit involved, the kinds of equipment employed, the nature of intelligence collected and techniques of insertion and extraction used in the operation — the President violated a key rule of clandestine work.”

OPSEC also argues that there was no “decision” that needed to be made to kill Osama bin Laden. If the intelligence indicated bin Laden was present at the compound, the ONLY DECISION was, of course, to take him out. Yet Obama has repeatedly taken credit for “his” actions while diminishing the bravery of the SEAL team.

If Congress doesn’t get tough about leaks, they won’t stop, because we do not have a President who will stop them.

There is bipartisan concern in Congress right now. The House and the Senate are both looking at enacting tough legislation that will stop leaks such as this and crack down on the offenders. However, they are running into opposition. Civil liberties groups are putting pressure on them to ease up on the bills. They say the language being thrown around hampers media access…which is quite the point when you want to stop the media from reporting information that will endanger our country, and the men and women involved in protecting it! Do they not understand what “covert” means, and why our intelligence methods must be kept secret?

Tell Congress not to bow to the pressure of lobbyists and to get tough on leaks! The future of our country depends on how well we are able to defend ourselves.

Are we going to let a sitting President play politics with our national security?
