A good litmus test for democracy in any society is to look at how the government treats the flow of information and the voices of its citizens. The more authoritarian the society, the more the government fears their citizenry and this fear leads to censorship. In the United States, citizens are granted certain intellectual freedoms by the Constitution: most importantly the freedom of speech and the freedom of assembly. ANY censorship of the Internet or other conduits of intellectual freedom is an attack on our Constitution and must NEVER be allowed in this country. We must elect and support politicians who will UNEQUIVOCALLY support our intellectual freedom.
It is often said that history repeats itself; that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Our generation has been blessed with unmatched technological marvels; unfortunately, with these advances in technology we are witnessing the revival of intellectual censorship.
Even in the United States, the supposed bastion of freedom in a world full of tyranny, we are beginning to experience the birthing pains of the same intellectual censorship that led directly to the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition as well as various other forced censorship programs throughout history. Today, certain groups in the US government are beginning to consider intellectual censorship on the freedoms granted by Constitution and amplified by the Internet revolution; we must tell our politicians that we will NEVER, ever allow them to take our Constitutional rights!
Around 1440 AD, a German blacksmith, Johannes Gutenberg, changed the world forever; he created the first movable type printing press. The Gutenberg press is considered one of man’s greatest inventions and was one that truly changed the world. It helped usher in a literate society by making books affordable for commoners. No longer were nobles and the clergy the only educated individuals in society; commoners were now afforded the opportunity to read.
The ability of common man to read and write would eventually lead to demands for political and intellectual freedom. These cries for freedom would result in the revolutions that created some of the world’s most enduring democracies. Such is the power of intellectual freedom and why it MUST be protected at ALL COSTS.
As stated earlier, these intellectual and literacy advancements for the good of all men made governments and religions around the world nervous. Many leaders had been taking advantage of the uneducated masses and they were beginning to see how literacy and the ability to easily share ideas through the written word threatened their power structures. And then the killing started.
People are not being killed today but ideas and intellectual freedom is being killed every day

Rep. Ron Paul and his son, Sen. Rand Paul, are long time stalwarts of intellectual freedom in the United States. Last week they released their Internet freedom manifesto called the “Technological Revolution”. This document is meant to be a road map for preserving the Constitution and the freedoms provided therein. This document will be the jumping off point for legislation meant to preserve intellectual freedom from foreign and domestic threats. If you value your Constitutional rights you MUST support legislation that will stem from this manifesto!The manifesto declares that the advent of the Internet is a “revolution” that is “occurring around the world”. Indeed, the Internet is as revolutionary as was the Gutenberg press and just as dangerous to world governments. In fact, the Pauls’ call the Internet “the single greatest catalyst in history for individual liberty and free markets”.
The manifesto stresses the advances in decentralizing government and creating free markets around the world; this decentralization “has unlocked individual self -empowerment, entrepreneurialism, creativity, innovation and the creation of new markets in ways never before imagined in human history”.
Conservative activists nationwide MUST support this unparalleled commitment to conservative ideologies and fiscal responsibility! We are the vanguard of the conservative movement; an army of "small government" enthusiasts who must take our message into the wilderness so that we may educate the Socialist savages who threaten our economy, our culture, our Constitution, and ultimately our way of life. The “Technological Revolution” manifesto is not only slated to be a sword attacking all intellectual censorship measures, but a shield against them as well. The Paul’s have laid out an 8 point test for determining whether or not a piece of legislation seeks to regulate free speech and other Constitutional freedoms. That test asks the following questions:- Is this a core function of the federal government?
- Does it execute constitutionally defined duties?
- Does it protect constitutionally defined rights?
- Does it protect property rights?
- Does it protect individual rights?
- If the federal government does not do this, will others?
- Will this policy or regulation allow the market to decide outcomes or will it distort the market for political ends?
- Is this policy or regulation clear and specific, with defined metrics and limitations?
ANY legislation that does not meet these criteria MUST voted down by our politicians. Further, we must throw out of office any and all lawmakers who sponsor legislation that violates these criteria, as they will have proven themselves to be liberal power mongers looking to steal your rights all so they don’t have to put up with your opinions. They want to control you. They want to tell you what to think through this control and they will stop at nothing to do it. If we are to protect our country, we must tell our politicians, in no uncertain terms, that we will not stand for authoritarian and freedom stealing legislation or treaties.
Government intrusion into our intellectual rights and censorship of the Internet is not only bad for individual liberty; it is also another nail in the coffin of the United States economy. Government regulation has been proven time and time again to hurt business and innovation; yet there are still a substantial number of leftist ideologues in Congress who believe that government intervention is a good thing. They forget the failures of the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cuba, etc. and they ignore the fact that our robust economy was nearly destroyed by government intervention and the bailouts that followed
In summing up their Manifesto, the Paul’s make it clear that they will NOT sit back and watch our freedoms dry up like creek in the summer. They state:
“Today, the road to tyranny is being paved by a collectivist-Industrial complex -- a dangerous brew of wealthy, international NGO's, progressive do-gooders, corporate cronies and sympathetic political elites. Their goals are clear: The collectivist-industrial complex seeks to undermine free markets and property rights, replacing them with ‘benevolent’ government control and a vision of ‘free’ that quickly evolves from ‘free speech’ to ‘free stuff.’ We know where this path leads. As Thomas Jefferson said, ‘The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.’ A benevolent monopoly for ‘the public interest’ is nothing more than a means for the old guard to reassert their power. The role of the government on the Internet is to protect us from force and fraud, not to decide our interests.”
As you can plainly see, the freedom hating laws endemic to liberal thinking are slowly finding their way into our country. Using Non-governmental organizations such as the United Nations, Socialists are poisoning our country with laws dead set against our capitalist, constitutional values that hurt innovation, decay our freedoms, will ultimately destroy our economy and change us from a nation of citizens to subjects. WE MUST NEVER ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!

Support Intellectual Freedom today! Tell your Congressmen and Senators to keep their hands off of your brain AND your Constitution. If we don’t stand firm, if we don’t tell our politicians to hold the line, if we aren’t conservative soldiers fighting against a crafty and invisible enemy then we will have forgotten history. The same atrocities that occurred after the invention of the printing press WILL happen again. If we are lazy and let others fight our battles, we will one day discover that there is no one left fighting and that any thing worth fight for was lost long ago.
