This week, the Trump administration took another stand against the United Nations. Along with 32 other nations, Trump condemned the UN's policy of promoting abortion worldwide as a form of family planning.

This has been a fight that Donald Trump has waged since his first day in office. The President signed an executive order in early 2017 reimposing the Mexico City Policy to ensure that American tax dollars no longer went to United Nations programs and organizations that fund, promote, or perform elective abortions.

Regardless of your position on the issue, this was a common sense move. American tax payers should not be paying for abortion procedures on the other side of the world. There is no national security interest in helping regimes like China engage in barbaric forms of population control...

One of President Trump's best accomplishments of his first four years was his decision to cut off UN funding to programs and policies clearly not in the United States' national interest. When the Palestinian Authority was caught using American funding to teach students "Death to America" or provide pensions to the families of fallen terrorists, Trump cut off all funding to the UNRWA. When the UN's Global Migration Pact was caught trying to help illegal aliens force their way into the United States, Trump withdrew from the past entirely. And when UNESCO - a body designed to protect World Heritage Sites - adopted an anti-Israel and anti-Semitic stance, Trump cut all of their funding as well.

Line by line, President Trump and his administration have gone through the UN's budget and cut funding to United Nations programs that go against our interests.

Amazingly, many of your colleagues want to undo Trump's UN funding cuts. They want American taxpayers to fund anti-American policies around the world. They are insisting that the UN be given no-strings-attached funding, to use as they see fit.

Congressman Mike Rogers has a solution: the American Sovereignty Restoration Act. The bill is quite simple: It cuts ALL United Nations funding, except what is necessary to facilitate the withdrawal of US personnel and equipment from UN facilities.

Congress would be free to fund individual UN programs that are deemed to be worthwhile -- such as UNICEF -- but you would no longer be allowed to send the UN billions in no-strings-attached funding for them to spend on whatever they want... If you believe that a UN program deserves American taxpayer money, you would have to hold an on-the-record vote explaining why it deserves American support.

The bill would also revoke UN officials' diplomatic immunity. In New York alone, the United Nations owes over $17 million in parking tickets. All across this country, UN officials are able to avoid prosecution and fines by hiding behind their diplomatic title. Rep. Rogers' bill would revoke that diplomatic immunity for all UN officials.

The bill would also kick UN soldiers out of American military facilities. The UN would no longer be allowed to use American bases to train their intervention forces. Likewise, the UN would also be prohibited from ever assuming command over American military personnel.

All of this is common sense. This is what it means to put America First. If there are UN programs deserving of American support, you are free to fund it. But the days of sending the United Nations billions of dollars at a time to use as they see fit would be over.

You were elected to serve the American people and ensure that Americans' tax dollars are well spent. You and I both know funding the UN is no longer in our national interest.

The only question is whether you will do the right thing and cut the funding.

You will not be able to get away with re-funding the United Nations. Any Congressman or Senator who votes to fund the United Nations' anti-American programs will be held accountable.

I just hope you do the right thing and pass the American Sovereignty Restoration Act into law...
